Getting ready to go

Exams are finally over, what a relief! There was basically zero motivation to study in the last few days, was glad to hand in that last paper. Now it's just packing and preparing for the trip to China. There's alot of things to think through and I just want to make sure I don't forget anything and at least have plans in case things go wrong. I'll be leaving on December 9th, but from December 3rd - 7th I have a annual Chinese Methodist Church conference down in Melbourne. Very much looking forward to that as it's the first time they have an seperate English youth conference and a few of us from Sydney will be going down for the first time to an annual conference.

It's been a big few weeks in terms of album releases in the hip-hop/rap genre.

The Game - Doctor's Advocate

The much anticipated follow up to his debut album 'The Documentary' came out 2 weeks ago. Initial thoughts - an excellent follow up album considering that West Coast rap icon Dr. Dre didn't put any production down (as he did on 'The Documentary'). The song "It's Okay (One Blood)" is a certified classic and one of the most memorable rap songs from 2006. Personally, I feel that The Game sh*ts all over 50 Cent and G-Unit. Extra guests on this album include Kanye West, Nas, Snoop, Xzibit & Nate Dogg.

Other big releases which I haven't managed to hear:

Jay-Z - Kingdom Come

So much for a retirement. It's great to see H.O.V.A back in the game and doing what he does best. It's also good to see that moving on up to CEO of Def Jam hasn't changed his raps. The guy is a true entrepeneur but he's also one of the best rappers in the game today. No one can doubt his legacy and what he's been able to achieve. I've only heard one song from the album but based on that I've got pretty high expectations on this album.

Snoop Dogg - Tha Blue Carpet Treatment

Haven't heard any tracks, but anything from Snoop is worth a listen. The guy just has pulling power and can appear on any track he wants and will guarantee a boost in sales/listens for that track.

The album that I'm really looking forward to is the new one from Nas, entitled 'Hip Hop is Dead'. Peep the album cover - it looks like Nas has put some thought into this one. The release date is December 19th 2006. It's the first album Nas will put out under Def Jam (after squashing his beef with Jay-Z).

Braggin Writes (Song of the Week)

Lastly, check out this song from Omarion (formerly of B2K, he was also in the movie 'You Got Served'). Apart from being a really talented dancer, he's also released some pretty good songs. This is a single from his new album, and it's called 'Ice Box'. I'm sure this song is going to go REALLY high on the charts, it's a goodie that's for sure!

Last 4 One

A short one today, just saw this video and it was too good not to share.

It's a video of the Korean B-Boy Crew, Last 4 One. I think these guys came 2nd at Battle Of The Year 2005 (International B-Boy Crew competition). First place went to a Japanese group (Go the Asians!).

Definitely one of the best routines I've ever seen - good mix of solo b-boy work and excellent group routines.

On, On Site

Yo peoples!

Well, I've finally decided to put a blog on blogspot.com. Decided to put blog stuff here, and other things at my Multiply space. I think that's enough online 'spaces / blogs / community things' for me. Or maybe I'm just looking for another way to procrastinate from uni exam preparation.

Not too sure what this blog is going to consist of but I thought it might be nice to put up so I can keep friends updated on what's happening whilst I'm China (For roughly 3 months from Dec - Feb).

Being an avid fan of hip-hop music I'll probably give some thoughts on albums or songs I've listened to. Maybe a bit of reflection on sport. Or some movies. Or some current affairs that are happening around the world. And hopefully some reflections on my beliefs (I'm a Christian).

For now, I'll try to put up a weekly track - titled 'Braggin Writes'

Braggin Writes (Song of the Week)

This week's song is 'Next Level (Nyte Time Mix)' by one of hip-hop's better duos, Showbiz & AG. It's from their 1992 album 'Runaway Slave'. You can listen to it here.

The beat is a classic by none other than DJ Premier (Of Gang Starr). It is one of my all time favourite hip-hop beats. Some may recognise the beat from the movie '8 Mile' starring Eminem.
